GADGET TIME

Since I first began my interest in cards I must have played with hundreds of gadgets. What sort of gadgets, you ask? Well, the kind that generally remain hidden, or hide in plain sight, and assist in creating moments of impossibility at the card table.

One of my favorites has to be a gaffed card case made by Gary Plants. Given this blog is available to the general public I won't describe it or its function in any detail, other than to say it's designed to achieve an effect that can also provide a short interlude from cards during a card set. It is organic within the situation, introduces no special "props", and is one of the few non-card effects that I perform regularly.

Those who are not already aware of the effect, and interested to learn more shouldn't have much difficulty getting more details by contacting Gary directly or visiting his site.

Gary does some fine gaff work, and this gadget is no exception. It is a very simple but clever idea, and each one is hand-made by Gary. I have had mine for years and provided you take care of it and store it safely, yours should last a long time too. Looking at it there is nothing to see. It looks like a card box should.

Although the mechanical workings are enough to make James Bond smile, it is also the handling that Gary has devised, that makes this so brilliant. It is ingenious! I highly recommend looking into this, especially if you are looking to add a little variety to your card set and, like me, are a little too fond of playing with gadgets.
